What import options are available to you if you need to upload a database of email addresses to your JustClick account?

Let’s take a closer look at the section on importing contacts.

CSV Import

With this feature, you can quickly add your contact list to any regular group.

When importing via a CSV file, you will get a convenient data import wizard. It is enough to assign the actual field in JustClick to the column from your file and the data will be correctly imported into your account.

How to import data via CSV file?

Open section “Contacts” – “Leads” – “Import” – “CSV Import”.

In the “Where to import” field, select the group to import, below, upload the file for import (the file must be in .csv format, in UTF-8 encoding), select the field separator (“;” or “,” or “\ t”)

Should I send an activation email or not?

Do not send an activation email when importing new contacts. Sending emails is possible only from a third-party email server – if you set this checkbox, then you will NOT be able to send letters to new imported contacts through our servers. You can send a letter to uploaded contacts only if you have configured and selected an external server for sending letters (this server is indicated for an example).

Send an activation message to new subscribers to confirm the permission to receive email newsletters – if you check this box, then a subscription activation letter will be sent to all imported contacts. You will be able to send them letters only after they click on the link in this letter.

However, in order to protect against spammers, this import method cannot be abused, it has limitations:

  1. importing more than 500 contacts at the same time will not work;
  2. if the percentage of activation is low, the ability to import with activation will be suspended.

Click “Next”.

Then match the fields. For example, if your file contains email addresses in the first column, names in the second, and phone numbers in the third, then here you also select email in the first column, name in the second, and phone number in the third. If you do not need to import any columns of your file, then above them select “do not import”.

“Do not import the first row (contains column names)” allows you to exclude the first line of your file from import, for example, if you have column names in it. This feature is enabled by default. To disable it, uncheck the checkbox.

  1. check this boxif your file in the first line does not contain data for import, but only column names
  2. select “do not import” if you do not need to import data from this column
  3. select the data type corresponding to the required compand

(only 5 lines from the file are displayed, the remaining lines will also be imported)

After all the matches are set, click on the “Import contacts” button.

The import will start and you can see its progress in front of you.

After the import is complete, the number of contacts that have been imported will be shown. In the example 8 lines were imported and 1 line could not be loaded.

If you close this window or click “Finish” before the import is complete, the import process will run in the background, and its progress will be visible in the history table.

If there are errors in the list of imported data, you will receive a notification about the line number with an error and the import will be paused. Correct the error and import again.

Text Import

If import via CSV file does not suit you, you can import data via text.

Go to the section “Contacts” – “Leads” – “Import” – “Text Import”.

  • In the “Where to import” field, specify the group to which the import will be made.
  • In the window “Import data” paste the data in text format

Make sure the inserted data is correct, take into account the order of the data and the separator:

  • The first line should contain a list of imported fields.
  • The next lines contain data.
  • Delimiter – “;”
  • If the value of the add. field is the date, you must specify it in the format ‘YYYY-MM-DD’

Example 1:
Email;Name;Middle name; Last name;Phone;Shipping city;Tag;
[email protected];John;Fitzgerald;Kennedy;+18000000000;Los Angeles;vip;
[email protected];Deny;;;+18001100340;New York;new;

If the import of contacts is made from an export file that was made from our service, then it will be enough to insert only the e-mail address, you do not need to fill in other fields. The contact with the specified e-mail address will be added to the new group, and the contact information will be added automatically.

Example 2:

email;
[email protected];

The “skip automatic emails” field allows you to specify whether subscribers will receive email series in their entirety after import or not. You can add subscribers to a new group by skipping the first 2 letters, then subscribers will start receiving an automatic series immediately from the third message.

In addition to the methods described in this article for adding a database of addresses to your account, you can integrate with other services through Zapier and API

Helpful information

What is the difference between importing followers and importing contacts?

A contact is data about a potential customer or subscriber that was entered manually through import or when placing an invoice or filling out a subscription form. For non-activated contacts, it is not possible to send letters to email. You can only send sms if the contact has a mobile number.

Contact is information about a prospect or subscriber that was entered manually through import or when invoicing or completing a subscription form. For non-activated contacts, it is impossible to send letters to e-mail. You can send SMS only if the contact has a mobile phone number.

However, if the contact was uploaded by importing subscribers with the ability to send email through an external SMTP server, then you can send an email to him without going through our servers and the activation process. Work with letters, texts, settings takes place in your JustClick account, and mailing is carried out via a third-party mail server.

A subscriber is a contact that is in the “Subscribed” or “Activated” status, that is, the most useful contact. For subscribers, you can send instant, automatic letters and sms through the JustClick servers. Read more about contact statuses here.

In what status will the contact be added to the new group?

If this is a contact that you already have in the database, it will be added in the same status as at the time of import.

If this is a new contact that you do not have in your database, it will be added in the “Awaiting activation” status. If you import contacts with sending an activation letter, then those who activate the subscription will receive an active “Subscribed” status, after which they will be able to receive your mailings.

If this is a new contact and during import you select “Skip sending activation email when importing. It will be possible to send emails to them only through a third-party SMTP server”, then the contact will receive the status “Can only be sent through an external SMTP server” (blue checkmark).

Lifehack 1

If you need to add contacts/subscribers from one group to another within one JustClick account, then use the “gear” in the “Subscribers” section or through the “Leads” section Filter the necessary data and add them to another or new group.у.

The filter stores information about the issue for 5 minutes. If you did not import (add to the group) in five minutes, please filter the necessary contacts again and repeat the procedure, otherwise all contacts in your database will be added to the group.

Lifehack 2

You can export filtered data or contacts / subscribers by group via export by clicking on the gear. Then load this data via import in text or via CSV file.

To export (upload) data, click on the gear and select the appropriate format
